Thinking ahead

This weekend, almost inadvertently Vesko and I found ourselves in the midst of a humongous crowd of 3 and 4 year olds. Back in February I saw an announcement that Radio City Music Hall will present its Disney on Ice spectacle in Sofia, and without thinking much I immediately bought 2 tickets.

So on Sunday at about 3:30 in the afternoon a security guard looked quite perplexed as we walked in the theater, unaccompanied by a mini-me or mini-him, two 30 year olds outrageously out of place, armed with tickets and a determination to enjoy the show. As a side note I feel obliged to mention that it was not a Radio-City show after all, but it was American enough.

We had come straight from a weekend with friends spent in a small Bulgarian town – an hour-long ride from Sofia. We were tired and hungry so while we were waiting for the show to begin, we were discussing what we should prepare for dinner. Looking for a quick, delicious and nutritious bite, we settled on an awesome chili con carne soup that we learned how to do at the culinary school we recently attended.

The show began and the kids LOVED it. There was shouting with joy all throughout the first part. I was more focused on the ice-skating part than on the moral lessons that were delicately woven into the story (kids who lie to their friends and family are bad, bad, bad) and on my thoughts which were already flowing to the working week ahead of me. Part of my planning process is deciding on what lunch I would bring to work and in intermission I told Vesko:

“You know I am thinking ahead as usual…” – I looked at him and he was quite pale and very serious – “I don’t think I have a proper container to bring soup to work tomorrow.”

“Wow,” he sighed. “I thought you were going to say it’s about time we have a kid”.
